Are you trying to find a local recommended electrician? Finding someone you can trust to do a professional job at a good price is not always easy. We trades people get ourselves a bad name sometimes for not being reliable, or for not doing a good job – or for having too many tea breaks! If you have had one bad experience it makes you wary the next time. However, we’re not all the same!
If you are looking for a recommended domestic electrician then here’s an insider’s view on what you should look out for – my tips!
- Are the electricians registered with any national regulatory body? NICEIC is one of the leading voluntary registers of electrical contractors in the UK. Approved electricians undergo an in-depth assessment of their work and skills and safety. They are re-assessed on a regular basis to ensure that they comply. They need to have insurance. So by choosing an electrician who has voluntarily registered you will know that you are getting someone who is insured and regularly inspected. Other similar bodies are TrustMark and SELECT.
- Recommendations are important. A friend who has used an electrician before and would recommend them is the best place to start.
- Check out the testimonials on the electrician’s website. How recent are they? We ask our customers to post reviews on our Google Profile.
- Will they provide you with how much they charge per hour? Professional electricians will have a pricing structure so that you know that the price is fair and is dependent on the size of the job – not on how much you can afford. Most small domestic emergencies are completed in the first hour on the job so you would only be charged for that hour.
